
Also, there is The Site of the Boston Massacre, the place of an incident in 1770 where British soldiers killed five civilians and injured six others, leading Faneuil Hall, a marketplace and meeting hall since 1743. Another monument is The Old State House where from 1713-1798 it was the seat of the Massachusett's General Court and is one of the oldest surviving public buildings in the city. The Benjamin Franklin Statue is located at the former site of the Boston Latin school, leading to another site known as The Old Corner Bookstore an old historic commercial building in the center of Boston, connected to The Old South Meeting House as an old historic church building. Next is Park Street Church an active Conservative Congregational church with over 1,000 members, to Granary Burying Ground being the city's third oldest cemetery, along with King's Chapel, an independent Christian unitarian congregation, followed by King's Chapel Burying Ground also being another cemetery at King's Chapel. The Freedom Trail links 16 major sites, starting with the Boston Common a central park in the city, to The Massachusetts State House the state Capitol and the government of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In just two years, 40,000 pedestrians were walking the trail yearly. At the time, the mayor John Hynes agreed with Schofield's idea and soon the trail was built. In 1951 the Freedom Trail was built to connect several important local landmarks, from the idea originated from local journalists William Schofield.
